Text and Images
This is one of the areas of graphic design that does take a bit of experience to develop an eye for, since the two things - text pieces and images - are different in nature. Putting them together in such a way that they become one whole thing in which the images complement what is written in the text is the problem that needs to get solved.
The things that helps us (as is the case with all graphic design problems) are alignment, clustering and also hierarchy. However, when we talk about image / text clusters there can be situations in which one of the images takes the place of number one in the hierarchy, although that place is normally reserved for the headline.
The typographical components of hierarchy in the examples below are:
-
Headline
-
Subhead
-
Entry Paragraph
-
Paragraph
-
Spot
-
Caption
This does not mean that I am using all of these components in all of the examples that I show on this page. Some have all of them, others only the basics - the headline, the subhead and the actual paragraphs.
(Note: You are definitely advised to read the page where I talk about typographical (and visual) hierarchies here >>> before you look at the examples below.)
Embedding images inside text
Images can be embedded inside text columns by making part of the text flow narrower. What you need to have in order to be able to do this is a separate text box for each paragraph that you copy paste into your page. (This is recommended practice anyway since it will also stop you from having huge paragraph breaks that come about from pressing "enter" twice on your keyboard. See related video here >>>.)
What you need to be careful of is to nicely nest the images inside the text with about paragraph break's space on the top or bottom and about the same as that on the side, so that we get a good cluster where everything forms one connected chunk and is also well aligned. And also, of course, be careful about placing the image on the side of the text where it is straight, so that you get nice parallel lines. And no, this will not work with centered text, only text that is either left or right aligned. The examples I am giving you here all with left aligned text, but right aligned will work also provided you place the image on the straight side of the text.
Below I am showing you several examples:
-
The first is a single image which is nested inside the text flow.
-
In the second we have a single long image that runs alongside the text. This is a good way of showing vertical images at bigger sizes.
-
The third is an example of using an alternative frame. And my advice with frames is to not be ambiguous - do something that makes a difference. And also be aware that a text frame is a "style" and if you use it you have to spread the usage of it to other pages as well. This does not mean you have to do it all the time, but you do have to do it some of the time.
Note: In order to create a differentiation in typographic style I have changed the font that I use throughout this site, Barlow, to Exo 2 in the examples below.

Circular / Amorphous Visuals
If you want to use circular images the only way in which you can really do that is with the crop tool - the actual frame preset will only give you a perfect circle if the image itself is a perfect square. Otherwise you will get ellipses, and my advice in general is to avoid ellipses unless you are making a very old fashioned design.
You can place rounded images inside text flows just like you can straight edges images. The trick is to always align rounded things from the middle and never the top or the bottom or one of the sides since rounded forms do not have enough "flesh" that you can align something to at their extremities, only their middle is good for alignment. As long as you keep that in mind, the rest is fairly straightforward as you can see in the 2 examples below. The first is a perfect circle that I placed in a circular container box to give it a frame, and the second is an amorphous crop shape.

Using wide and narrow visuals
Since browsers are horizontal narrow display mechanisms, it makes a lot of sense to use the visual material placed inside a webpage in a horizontal narrow format as well. You would obviously need to have material that lends itself to such crops, however these are not too hard to find since this approach of embedding visuals into web content is quite widely used. Below I am showing you several examples, the first 2 with images and the other 2 with videos, one each aligned with the text columns, and the others stretched to the edge of the center page.
Again, when we embed these inside a text flow the space we leave from the top and bottom should be roughly that of a paragraph break space, and not more, so that we do not break the text flow.

Videos as text visuals
This is really a part of the section above for using wide and narrow visual material, however I also want to make a point for using videos instead of pictures for visual text insets. The things to keep in mind when you do this is to select videos that will not be too distracting (too fast paced, too colorful etc) for someone who is actually trying to read something that is right next to the video. And another good idea is to place short clips and have them stop instead of looping so that the motion, no matter how subtle it is, completely stops at some point.
Obviously, the videos do not have to be in this wide narrow format only, they could be other ratios as well. However, be aware that the bigger their size gets, the more distracting they may be, so sticking to something narrow like this may not be a bad idea.

Images as insets with captions
An embedded visual can also be used very effectively with a caption that is placed either underneath it or inside an inset that partially covers it. Below I am showing you an example of the latter.

Creating variable repeaters
Continuing with the theme of typographic image insets we can also create pages that consist of various configurations of the basic inset applied in a sort of "repeater". Unlike the Wix repeater however (also known as a "List"), these would have to be designed individually, of course.

Putting text inside images
The trick is to find visual material that will allow you to do this without any fuss. This you can do by searching for images with the search term "copy space" added to whatever it is that you are looking for. This search will give you images where the photographer who took them deliberately left a good amount of empty background in the awareness that their work would be used by a graphic designer as a container for textual information.
The best place to look for such "copy space" images is freepik, although you can find them on other resource portals as well. The difference with freepik is that it is a portal that is specifically set up to provide material to designers. The other portals do not have such a focus, there is plenty of artistic content that is there in its own right as well.
And one word of caution to Turkish viewers / readers of this site: On all of these resource or photography portals you will need to do your search in English in order to get decent results. Simply google translate your search terms into English and then put them into the portals' search engines.
In the first example below I am showing you text that is placed on a visual that has "copy space", which means that one can place the text content directly on the image.
There may however be situations where you really do need to use an image that has not been created with "copy space" in mind. In such a situation what you will need to do is to place some type of neutral color field layer between the text and the visual. A good way of doing that is to highlight the text inside the text editor itself. And that is what I am showing in the second example.
